Introducing Greenlight Counseling

ABOUT THE THERAPIST

Hi! I'm Christine Schneider and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I've been in the field since 2017, after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Social Work. I specialize in working with folks with eating disorders, anxiety, and relationships. I also enjoy supporting individuals who are navigating life transitions and exploring new facets of their identity. Most importantly, I just like to work with humans going through human things. My passion is helping clients "greenlight" their best selves in order to find their authenticity and live meaningful lives.

I chose this field because of my genuine curiosity and attentiveness to the human condition. I find that we all share the desire to belong and we also have the capacity to overcome life challenges. I believe that humans are incredible, and resilient, and competent. My goal is to create a space to foster these qualities and empower you to take control of your own life.

ABOUT THE HUMAN

Three fun facts about me:

1. I was born and raised in Raleigh, and have enjoyed sharing my love for this city with others #RaleighNative

2. I enjoy hiking and yoga, reading, exploring new restaurants, and traveling!

3. My guilty pleasure is pop culture and anything on Bravo. Let's talk about your favorite reality show!

I try my best to balance my "therapist self" with my "human self" in the shared therapy space so that you feel like you're connecting with a person rather than talking to a robot. I believe that this balance is key to building a solid therapeutic relationship.

ABOUT THE PRACTICE

Greenlight Counseling is a specialized private practice located in Durham, NC. Greenlight offers therapy services for individuals seeking guidance in making positive life changes through empowerment, education, and skills coaching.

So, why “Greenlight”? It seems like a silly name that doesn’t have anything to do with therapy! First, #greenlight is defined as giving permission to go ahead with a project or a goal.

For all of you literary lovers out there, greenlight also comes from the classic novel from F. Scott Fitzgerald, “The Great Gatsby.” In the book, a green light is used to symbolize Gatsby’s hopes and dreams for the future.

Greenlight was created as a space where clients can take action towards their goals, hopes, and dreams for the future using therapy as their guide. Specifically, I am passionate about supporting individuals in taking action over anxiety, eating disorders, grief, trauma, relationships, and life transitions. We will work together to set goals for therapy through collaboration, practice, willingness, and a bit of humor.

This practice is also LGBTQIA+ affirming, multiculturally inclusive, & Health At Every Size aligned so everyone is welcome in my office. Sometimes, we need a little guidance to re-prioritize the important things in life. If you’ve ever thought about starting therapy, feel free to use this as your “greenlight.”

ABOUT THE BLOG

I wanted to create something that helps you in getting to know my therapy style. Equally important, this blog will feature important mental health topics and insights for increasing autonomy and living more meaningful lives. Get ready for some education, coping skills, tips/tricks, and support around managing distress, overcoming intrusive thoughts, and navigating relationships. If you have a specific topic in mind, feel free to drop suggestions at the bottom of the page for future posts!

I look forward to sharing this space with you!
